sorry world
Hmm... it's been a little while since I last posted. I've had a lot of homework and I've been perusing the website linked to at the bottom all week. It's amazing. In case you haven't heard about it, this guy set up this website called sorryeverybody.com to apologize to the world for the re-election of George Bush. It started with one picture of him holding a sign that says "Sorry World (we tried)... - Half of America", and now there are over 500 pages filled with Americans apologizing to the world in their own way. There are also responses from people from many different countries (I've counted nearly 60 so far) accepting the apologies.
After such a bitter loss, it's so nice to know that you're not alone, and makes you feel like you really can do something to help and fight back. I've also seen many responses from people from other nations saying that until they saw this site, they thought all Americans were like Bush and his minions, but after seeing the outpouring of sadness and anger from Americans on the site, it has renewed their hope, their love, and their respect for the people of our country. I hope that the site owner is proud that he has made such an impact on global relations - I honestly think it's done a lot towards promoting communication between nations and letting the world hear those of us who do not agree with this administration.
And while I think it's nice for us to apologize to the rest of the world and show them that a lot of us do think of ourselves in a world context, we must remember that this is not over. We must do what we can to combat the right-wing nuts that have taken control of our government. Which is why I am happy to see www.thisisnotover.com. It's an excellent way to keep up with the stupid and dangerous things the administration is doing to the environment, civil rights, and foreign policy (to name a few), and to find out ways to contribute and fight back.
Look for me on page 467. Link
